Joshua is a Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under the UFC champion and Hall of Fame inductee, Royce Gracie. He also holds the title of 13th Khan - Kru Yai: Senior Instructor in Muay Thai (United World Muay Thai Association). Since he began training in 1996, he has been involved in all aspects of Fight Science: student; teacher; coach; competitor; fight trainer and Corner-man.
Being in the Royce Gracie Network, we are at the forefront of the next evolution in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), a system renowned to be the equivalent of corporeal chess. Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu is very different from other BJJ systems. Other BJJ schools start from and stay on ground for their entire program. Their training focus is in a sporting context, which is great for competition. Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu is for the real world. True North Martial Arts is a self-defense focused school that helps you to safely develop your natural attributes into a complete continuum. We start with a strong self-defense curriculum always with an emphasis for choosing safety and situational awareness. We then work through in-depth stand-up, take-down, and ground-work tactics and strategies which are applicable for the real world.
The key to success in any modality is repetitions over time that builds muscle memory and technical competency in a safe environment. But True North is about more than practicing routinized movements, developing combative proficiencies, and increasing physical capacities. We practice the ability to better perform under pressure and to overcome any obstacles so that we will achieve our goals. But what you will notice is how much fun you are having practicing this incredibly deep, rich art.
